ABOUT US

In the process of presenting and creating images of the cultural and historical heritage of a certain destination, tourist guides have an invaluable interpretative role and are considered responsible for shaping the factual and emotional experience that visitors gain during their visit. On the other hand, tourist guides also appear as creators of such heritage by using their interpretative skills, selection of stories, historical images and fragments and shape the destination experiences of visitors, bringing value and meaning to the overall experience. Tourist guides and tour leaders constitute a value which is added to the tourist product by conveying information about historical, artistic, environmental, natural, and cultural assets in the destinations and are the nation's spokesperson for their cultural heritage. As a profession, tourist guides were officially recognized in Zagreb in 1962, after the Zagreb Tourist Association had organized the first training for tourist guides. On February 2, 1973, the Founding assembly of the Association of Zagreb Tourist Guides was held, and since then the association has been continuously operating and actively contributing to the development of tourism and the promotion of cultural and historical heritage of Zagreb. The current 70 members of our association offer sightseeing services in Zagreb and surrounding areas promoting the heritage, values and beauty of our capital and other attractive tourist destinations in Croatia. The main goal of the association is to enhance awareness of local heritage by offering the standard and themed tours, promoting tourist guides as the ambassadors of the region, promoting Zagreb as a tourist destination, education of our members and cooperation with the Croatian National Tourist Board and with the Zagreb Tourist Board.
